DeskFerry vs Intercom

Intercom is where the customer conversation happens: inbox, chat, tickets, and Fin answering first. DeskFerry is not a help desk. It works behind yours, doing the refunds, CRM updates and follow-ups that a resolved conversation still leaves behind.

The work after the chat

The customer is happy. Someone still has to issue the refund.

Fin or your team can close the conversation in a minute. The refund, the CRM note and the receipt are separate jobs in separate tools. That is the part DeskFerry takes.

Your Intercom inbox

I was charged twice for September. Can one of them be refunded?

Sorry about that. I can see both charges, and I've asked billing to refund the duplicate. It usually lands within two days.

Great, thank you!

Straight talk

When to stay on Intercom

01

You need the help desk itself

DeskFerry has no inbox, ticket queue or SLA views. If you are choosing a help desk, Intercom is a real option and we are not.

02

Voice and messaging channels

Fin answers on phone, WhatsApp and SMS as well as chat. DeskFerry has no voice channel.

03

Support and onboarding in one tool

Product tours and proactive messages live in the same seat as your inbox. That consolidation is worth something.

Moving over

Keep Intercom. Add the follow-through.

This isn't a migration. Point an agent at the conversations that end in a promise someone has to keep.

  1. Find the promises

Search closed conversations for 'refund', 'credit', 'update your plan'. Those are the jobs that fall through.

  2. Brief one agent per promise type

Say what to check, which tools to touch, and the amount above which it must ask.

  3. Route approvals to the right channel

Billing approves refunds in #billing; account managers approve plan changes in theirs.

FAQ

Intercom questions

Is Intercom owned by Salesforce now?

Intercom's parent company renamed itself Fin in May 2026, and Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin on 10 September 2026 for about $3.6 billion. The help desk is still sold as Intercom, and Fin continues to work with other help desks.

What does Fin cost?

$0.99 per outcome (a resolution, handoff or routing), or $9.99 per qualified lead. On Intercom it comes on top of seats from $29 a month; on another help desk there is a 50-outcome monthly minimum.

Does DeskFerry replace Fin?

No. Fin answers customers. DeskFerry does the work those answers commit you to, in Stripe, your CRM, your finance tools. Many teams would run both.

Can DeskFerry answer customers directly?

DeskFerry has an embeddable chat widget, but it is not a help desk and has no voice channel. For full customer-facing support, a dedicated help desk is the better tool.

Why per plan instead of per seat?

Back-office agents serve the whole team, so DeskFerry charges one price per plan with shared credits. Adding a teammate doesn't change the bill.
