AI agent news: this week

The stories about AI agents that mattered this week, in plain English, with a line on what each one means for teams that use agents at work. Updated every Monday.

Week of 21–27 Sep 20266 stories

The short version

Websites push back. Amazon blocked Meta's new Muse agent from shopping on its store.

Humans in the loop, quietly. Some of Muse's phone calls are handled by human contractors.

Managing agents is a product now. Dataiku shipped agent tracking; Ando raised $20M for agent-first team chat.

Amazon blocks Meta's Muse agent from shopping on Amazon.com

Amazon cut off Muse, the consumer agent Meta launched on 8 September. It says Muse browsed and bought without identifying itself as automated, and stored customers' login details. Meta says credentials go to secure storage its main agent can't see. Amazon has also moved against shopping agents from Google, OpenAI and Perplexity.

What it means for teams

Agents that act on other companies' websites can be switched off overnight. For work that matters, connect agents through official integrations, where the other side has agreed to the access.

Meta tests human callers behind Muse's phone feature

Reuters reports that some calls Muse places to US businesses, like booking a haircut or checking stock, are handled by human contractors. Some Meta employees raised privacy concerns. Meta says the test is to gather feedback and add safety and privacy protections before a public release.

What it means for teams

“Autonomous” doesn't always mean no people involved. Ask any agent vendor which steps are automated, which are done by humans, and who can see your data along the way.

NVIDIA Isaac ROS 5.0 brings agent skills to robotics

Released at ROSCon in Toronto, Isaac ROS 5.0 adds skills in the open Agent Skills format, so coding agents can follow documented robotics procedures for setup, manipulation and pick-and-place. It also ships agent-ready docs and support for ROS Lyrical and Ubuntu 24.04.

What it means for teams

Skills are spreading beyond coding assistants. Writing a procedure down once, as a skill, is becoming the standard way to teach an agent how your team does things.

Alibaba Cloud pitches an “Agent-Native Cloud” at Apsara

Alibaba's Apsara Conference was about running agents at scale. Agent Context connects documents, business systems and chat records in one layer, which Alibaba says cuts token use by up to 67%. It also showed QwenWork, a workplace agent, and Qwen Book, an “agentic computer”.

What it means for teams

Vendors now compete on context, not just models. How useful an agent is depends on how much of your company's knowledge it can reach, safely.

05
Governance

Dataiku launches Agent Management to track agents across platforms

The standalone product finds agents running on AWS, Databricks, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, Snowflake and more, measures their business and technical performance, and flags the riskiest ones. It was announced at Dataiku Succeed and becomes generally available in October.

What it means for teams

Agent sprawl is now a line item. Even with a handful of agents, keep a simple list: who owns each one, what it can touch, and what it's worth to you.

Ando raises $20M for team chat where agents are members

Ando came out of stealth with a $20M seed round led by Accel and Index Ventures. In Ando, agents have their own identity and permissions in channels and threads, take assignments and escalate issues, and teams can bring agents they already use, such as Codex and Claude.

What it means for teams

Team chat is becoming the place agents do their work. Whichever chat app you use, give each agent clear permissions and a named owner.
