The best n8n alternatives in 2026 are DeskFerry for AI agents you describe in plain English, Zapier for the easiest no-code automation, Activepieces for an open-source replacement, and Make for visual building on a budget. Which one is right depends on why you're leaving n8n, so this guide starts there, ranks nine alternatives, and is honest about when you should stay put.
Disclosure: This article is published by DeskFerry. We rank our own product #1 for teams that want AI agents, and we call out where the others beat it. Weight our ranking accordingly.

Why teams look for n8n alternatives
n8n is a strong product. Most teams who leave aren't unhappy with what it can do; they're unhappy with what it takes to keep it running. Four reasons come up again and again.
1. Self-hosting is a real job. The free Community Edition means you run the server. n8n's own installation docs say self-hosting needs technical knowledge (server and container setup, scaling, security and configuration) and warn that mistakes can lead to data loss, security issues or downtime. They recommend n8n Cloud if you don't have that experience.
2. The learning curve assumes a technical user. The canvas is visual, but non-trivial workflows lean on expressions, JSON and code nodes. If the person who built the flows leaves, the flows often become hard for anyone else to maintain.
3. Execution-based pricing on Cloud. n8n Cloud is Starter at €20/month for 2,500 executions and Pro at €50/month for 10,000, billed annually. The next published step, Business at €667/month, is self-hosted only . Workflows and users are unlimited on every plan, which is generous, but busy teams can hit execution caps. Our n8n pricing breakdown covers the details.
4. AI nodes are not the same as AI agents. n8n's AI Agent node is useful, but it sits inside a workflow you designed step by step. If you want to give a goal ("research these leads and draft follow-ups") and have the AI work out the steps, an agent platform fits better.

The 9 best n8n alternatives, ranked
1. DeskFerry: best n8n alternative for AI agents
How it differs from n8n. In n8n you draw the workflow: trigger, nodes, branches. In DeskFerry you describe the agent in plain English and it works out the steps across your apps. There's no canvas to maintain. Agents can run on a schedule, be assigned tasks from a board, remember context across runs, and pause for your approval in the Desk before they send, spend or change anything important.
Integrations. 1,500+ apps through Composio, including Gmail, Slack, HubSpot, Salesforce, Notion and Google Sheets (see integrations). You can also run agents from Slack.
Pricing. 7-day free trial, then Growth $49/month (5,000 credits), Pro $99/month (12,000 credits) or Scale $299/month (40,000 credits). Plans are per workspace, not per user (pricing).
Getting started. 200+ templates and an agent marketplace, or describe your own in the agent builder.
Where n8n beats it. DeskFerry can't be self-hosted, and you can't drop into raw code steps. For high-volume, deterministic data syncs, n8n's per-execution pricing is usually cheaper. More detail in DeskFerry vs n8n.
2. Zapier: easiest n8n alternative for no-code automation
How it differs from n8n. Fully managed, far more apps, and easier for non-technical users. Agents, Tables, Canvas and MCP are included on every plan, including Free.
Pricing. Free for 100 tasks a month. Pro starts at $19.99/month billed annually ($29.99 monthly) for 750 tasks; Team starts at $69/month annual for 2,000 tasks. Zapier lists 9,000+ apps .
Who it's for. Teams that want simple, reliable automations without anyone owning infrastructure.
Where n8n beats it. Cost at volume. Zapier bills per task (each action step), so long, busy workflows get expensive in a way n8n's per-execution model doesn't. See n8n vs Zapier.
3. Make: best for visual builders on a budget
How it differs from n8n. Also a visual canvas, but fully hosted and friendlier for non-developers. Make bills in credits, roughly one per module action, and offers AI Agents inside its builder.
Pricing. A free plan with 1,000 credits a month. Paid plans (Core, Pro, Teams) are priced by credit volume on Make's pricing page, with annual billing cheaper than monthly. Make advertises 3,000+ native apps.
Who it's for. Ops and marketing teams who like seeing the flow and want low cost per step.
Where n8n beats it. Self-hosting and code. Complex loops can also burn Make credits fast, since every module run counts. See Make vs DeskFerry.
4. Activepieces: best open-source n8n alternative
How it differs from n8n. The closest like-for-like swap. The Community Edition is released under the MIT license, compared with n8n's fair-code Sustainable Use License, and the builder is simpler for non-developers. It supports flows, agents, tables and MCP.
Pricing. Free cloud plan with 1,000 credits a month and up to 5 users; Plus $20/month flat; Team $200/month; Ultimate custom. Self-hosting is free. Activepieces cites 760+ integrations .
Who it's for. Teams that want open source and self-hosting without n8n's learning curve.
Where n8n beats it. Integration count and community size. n8n lists 2,300+ integrations on its integrations page.
5. Gumloop: best for chat-first AI agents
How it differs from n8n. Gumloop started as a node canvas but now leads with chat-first agents that you deploy into Slack, Teams and email. Its canvas is labelled as a legacy workflow product. Pricing passes model costs through with an orchestration fee on top.
Pricing. Pro is listed from $37/month, with Enterprise on a quote. We couldn't load Gumloop's pricing page this session, so check gumloop.com/pricing for current terms. Our Gumloop comparison has more on the model.
Who it's for. Teams who want agents in the chat tools they already use.
Where n8n beats it. Self-hosting and predictable cost for deterministic workflows.
6. Lindy: best for prebuilt assistant agents
How it differs from n8n. Lindy is built around ready-made AI assistants for email, meetings, scheduling and sales, rather than a workflow canvas.
Pricing. A free plan with $50 in credits that last 7 days. Team starts at $49.99/month per active user with 5,000 credits each, pooled across the team, per Lindy pricing .
Who it's for. Individuals and small teams who want an assistant working quickly without designing anything.
Where n8n beats it. Cost as headcount grows, since every active user is billed, and flexibility for custom data workflows.
7. Microsoft Power Automate: best for Microsoft 365 teams
How it differs from n8n. Deep ties to Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and Dataverse, plus desktop RPA for legacy apps.
Pricing. Premium $15 per user/month, Process $150 per bot/month, Hosted Process $215 per bot/month, all billed yearly, with a 30-day trial, per Microsoft .
Who it's for. Companies standardised on Microsoft with IT-managed governance.
Where n8n beats it. Anything outside the Microsoft ecosystem, and per-user licensing adds up for wide rollouts.
8. Workato: best for enterprise IT
How it differs from n8n. An enterprise integration and automation platform with governance, security and agent products aimed at IT-led programs.
Pricing. Not published. Workato's pricing page routes you to sales .
Who it's for. Large companies automating across ERP, HR and finance systems with a central IT team.
Where n8n beats it. Price transparency and speed to start. Workato is overkill for a small team.
9. Pipedream: best for developers embedding integrations
How it differs from n8n. Code-first, and now focused on Pipedream Connect, which gives developers 3,000+ connectors and 10,000+ prebuilt tools to embed in their own apps and AI agents. Workday completed its acquisition of Pipedream in early 2026.
Pricing. Free for development use; Startup $99/month billed annually ($150 monthly) with 10,000 usage credits; Business custom, per Pipedream pricing .
Who it's for. Engineering teams building integrations into their own product.
Where n8n beats it. Internal team automation. Pipedream's direction is now developer infrastructure, not a general workflow tool for ops teams.
When to stay on n8n
Switching costs time, so be honest about whether you need to. n8n is still the right call if:
- You have an engineer who likes running it. Self-hosted n8n is very cheap at scale when someone owns the server.
- You must self-host. Data residency, air-gapped networks or strict compliance rules rule out most of this list. Activepieces is the only other self-hostable option here.
- Your workflows are deterministic and high-volume. Syncing thousands of records with fixed rules is exactly what n8n's per-execution pricing is good at.
- You need code steps. JavaScript and Python inside the workflow are a real strength.
Many teams end up running both: n8n for heavy data plumbing, and an agent platform for the judgment-heavy work that's painful to draw as a flowchart.
How to switch from n8n without breaking things
- List your active workflows and sort them: simple syncs, multi-step workflows with logic, and AI-heavy workflows.
- Match each group to a tool. Simple syncs move easily to Zapier, Make or Activepieces. AI-heavy work often gets simpler on an agent platform, where you describe the outcome instead of rebuilding every node.
- Rebuild one workflow at a time and run it next to the n8n version for a week.
- Add approvals for anything that sends or changes data while you build trust in the new setup.
- Turn off the n8n version only once the new one has matched it for a full cycle.
